about
Inspired by the band’s own true-life events, “Friends Like These” paints a vivid aural picture of lies and betrayal.
From its opening lines which state “thought I was losing my mind/turns out you tried to take that too” and continuing to include the raging chorus of “with friends like these, who needs enemies?”, the song pulls no punches as it seemingly assaults the perpetrator who had wronged them.
lyrics
Thought I was losing my mind,
turns out you tried to take that too.
You were a leach from the start.
What’s something useful worth to you?
You’re choking on your every word,
ain’t worth the shit your life’s become.
What’s another poor man’s money gonna buy for you these days?
When your lies are a sleepwalking gun,
and your face is the phantom of decency,
who will believe you are the victim,
when all your friends are scum like you?
I row with my hands, feet as a rudder.
You sit on your ass and wait for the wind.
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
With friends like these
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
With friends like these
I saw you walking alone
surrounded by the ghost of pride.
They couldn’t buy you a life,
no matter how you tried, denied.
The road to redemption ain’t long,
but you were never taught to walk.
Your path is a million mile crawl,
paved in fool’s gold.
When your lies are a sleepwalking gun,
and your face is the phantom of decency,
who will believe you are the victim,
when all your friends are scum like you?
I fly with the birds south for the winter.
You said you could fly and froze to death.
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
With friends like these
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
With friends like these
